As the only Guanellian school in the Diocese of Providence, Sacred Heart School is unique in a multitude of significant ways. We take pride in that. Returning students revel in it. New students will be enthralled by it. Parents will be delighted with it.
Mission Statement
Sacred Heart School lives the Guanellian family spirit of charity by embracing all students with respect and esteem. Recognizing Christ in each person, we provide a distinctly Catholic education that empowers students with knowledge and skills to succeed in life. Through a caring environment, we foster the God-given gifts and abilities of our students, so as to prepare them to contribute positively in the Church and society.
Guanellian Values & Charism
St. Louis Guanella
The Innate Value of Each Person. Every human being, as a child of God, is entitled to respect and dignity. Every person is a truly unique individual with a distinct personality and special talents that should be appreciated and honored by all. Each person harbors a strong desire for continuous development to reach his/her full moral and intellectual potential. Sacred Heart School employees are committed to encouraging students achieve that.
The Treasure of the Individual is in His or Her Heart. The intrinsic value of a person lies in his/her emotional capacity for establishing meaningful, loving relationships and a firm commitment to his or her own ethical development as well as society’s.
Dignity of the Poor. The person in need reveals the true face of humanity. The poor depend on the generosity of spirit of their brothers and sisters as an integral part of the human family. Our students are urged to demonstrate compassion to the poor by devoting themselves to the least among us.
Family Spirit. This is the central element of the Guanellian charism. As a Guanellian school, Sacred Heart transmits to its students the love of family and their responsibilities to their parents and siblings.
A Distinctly Catholic School Experience
The Catholic School experience is a unique opportunity for children and their families to practice and deepen their Faith. It is the goal of the entire Sacred Heart School community -- the pastor, principal, faculty, staff, coaches, advisors, and parent volunteers -- that each student receive an excellent and rewarding educational experience in a safe, nurturing environment.
The following principles contribute toward achieving that goal:
All staff members always seek the best for each student.
Teachers and parents collaborate to foster a positive partnership.
Ongoing communication between home and school regarding problems and concerns are critically important to their resolution.
When students observe constructive relationships between their parents and teachers, they recognize the value of cooperation to achieve positive results.
Practical and efficacious policies and procedures help students respect and adhere to the school’s structure and rules, especially with parent support.
Parents are expected to oversee their children’s homework and check nightly to assure that the work is completed conscientiously and thoroughly.
Parents are encouraged to provide guidance to their children when assisting with homework. Learners need to take academic risks so that they can learn from their errors.
Sacred Heart School promotes Catholic tenets and applies basic Guanellian educational traditions on a daily basis.
Parents are requested to pray daily for their children’s teachers, that they will share God’s wisdom in all classroom endeavors. Modeling this attitude will encourage our students to honor and pray for those in authority.
